If I Went Sky Diving

Monday, June 28th, 2010

If I went sky diving, where would I like to go? Wait, if I went sky diving, first I’d need to go for sky diving lessons. I do not have the foggiest idea about parachutes, harnesses or altimeters. Should I start with tandem sky diving or should I attempt accelerated freefalling? Perhaps I should begin in a sky diving simulator. All of these terms are popping up at me but I haven’t a clue. Yes, if I went sky diving, I’d certainly need some very basic instruction. I would probably register with a sky diving center where I am guaranteed to receive instruction from experienced and certified individuals. I would also be taught about the appropriate gear needed for my jump, and in stead of running out and buying all new equipment I could rent the items I needed.

After learning the basics of sky diving; prepared and eager, if I went sky diving I think I would start in Italy. Because sky diving is such a popular sport, there are dropzones all over the world. I’d like to find one in Italy where I could jump out of an aircraft into a beautiful picturesque location. I’ve always wanted to go to Italy so this would be the perfect opportunity to see visit the area and practice my skills, if I went sky diving.

The best time to learn about Skydiving is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Skydiving experience while it’s still free.

From what I’ve learned, if I went sky diving, I’d definitely start with the tandem jump. Because this method is said to be easy and quite safe, I’d try this first. I know I’d be harnessed to a master sky diver and makes me feel much better. If I went sky diving, I’d skip the accelerated freefall, that’s too advanced for me. I’d stick with the large parachute and take a tandem sky dive.

If I went sky diving, I’d like a friend to go with me. An experience like this might only come once in my lifetime. I’d like to share it with someone special. If I went sky diving, perhaps my husband or my sister could jump with me. Freefalling from 15000 feet with a friendly face a short distance away, would be comforting. Realizing someone special would forever share this memory with me, would make the adventure awesome, if I went sky diving.

If I went sky diving, I’d get on the Internet and search every possible website for sky diving information. I’d look for material related to sky diving locations, equipment, techniques, requirements, anything the Internet would provide. If I went sky diving, I’d definitely want to be well informed regarding what to expect once I arrived at the dropzone. I’d need to know what was provided at the dropzone in the way of food and lodging. There is so much important information I would require if I went sky diving. I’d get my hands on sky diving books and magazines. I would log on to a sky diving message board and probably ask questions. If I went sky diving, it would certainly be a big deal.

You can’t predict when knowing something extra about Skydiving will come in handy. If you learned anything new about Skydiving in this article, you should file the article where you can find it again.

All About Sky Diving

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The only way to keep up with the latest about Skydiving is to constantly stay on the lookout for new information. If you read everything you find about Skydiving, it won’t take long for you to become an influential authority.

Have you ever considered sky diving? Do you wonder what sky diving would feel like? Do you know much about sky diving? Sky diving definitely looks like, a frightening experience. Just watching people jumping from plans from thousands of feet in the air is enough to send chills down your spine. One would have to wonder whether sky diving is as exciting as people make it out to be or is this activity a total nightmare. For those who are not interested in sky diving or would never even consider it, perhaps to them it seems like a foolish and crazy thing to do. However for thousands of people in the world, the thrill of sky diving keeps sending them back for more.

Sky diving is a sport that requires training in safety and technique. Serious sky divers learn all the necessary skills needed for making the jump. However for the person who’s always been fascinated with sky diving but not interested in making it a hobby, there is one method of sky diving that doesn’t require instruction. This form of sky diving is referred to as tandem skydiving. It is considered to be safe, quite easy and very exciting. This sky diving technique allows a person to freefall at very high speeds while being harnessed to an instructor. For the individual who’s always dreamt of jumping from a plan, this type of sky diving is probably best for them.

I trust that what you’ve read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

For people who try tandem skydiving and decide they’d like to take it to another level, perhaps even make it a regular activity, the accelerated freefall technique is likely for them. This form of sky diving requires training and plenty of practice before attempting it on your own. Accelerated freefall sky diving, with proper instruction, can allow a person to freefall on every single jump. To learn accelerated freefall there are various stages of instruction a person must go through. Throughout this learning process an individual learns about stable and balanced body position and relaxation. This is certainly important for sky diving. A trainee is also taught about altitude awareness, pilot chute throw, turning techniques, hover control, radio assisted landing and other necessary lessons for accelerated freefall sky diving. This form of sky diving is believed to have a couple of benefits over other training methods. Accelerated freefall provides an individual plenty of time to practice their sky diving techniques because they are continuously freefalling. It’s also great for instructors because they are able to use hand signals during this training which teaches the individual to change their positioning to provide better results.

Contrary to what you might think, sky diving does not make a person feel as if they are falling. Instead when a person jumps, it’s as if they are being supported by a cushion of air. When thinking about sky diving, automatically you may sense a feeling of an upset stomach. However, people say the experience is similar to being in the water, the body is buoyant. Sky diving is an activity that an individual would probably have to experience for themselves in order to actually understand how it feels. Unless you are determined to try sky diving, there is no need to strap on a parachute just yet.

Skydiving Suits That You Can Use

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Every skydiver knows that they have to wear a skydiving suit or a jumpsuit before they jump. What people don’t know is that no suits are built alike and each one is custom made.

The reason why skydiving suits need to be custom made is because the wrong outfit may affect your jump. Think of it like using the wrong equipment to do a task and then a problem occurs.

Skydiving suits are grouped into two basic categories. There are the free flying suits and the recreational jump suit.

Both suits are easy to put on. The free flying suits enable the skydiver to do aerial acrobatics like sit down while cross legged in mid-air or descent at high speeds towards the ground.

To be able to do execute such a move in mid-air, the free flying suits have to be made of lightweight material so it creates less drag and a good example of such a material is supplex.

Supplex is a Dupont certified nylon fabric. It has a soft cotton-like hand with high water and wind resistant properties. It has high abrasion and is tear resistant. Aside from supplex, you may also find skydiving suits made from cotton and polyester blends.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Skydiving story from informed sources.

Recreational suits on the other hand are made of denser materials in order for it to have greater drag and lift. This will also keep the suit from tearing off especially in areas where the grips will be attached. These are usually made from nylon and polyester. These are the ones commonly used by skydiving teams.

Because of the increasing number of skydiving enthusiasts, there are a lot of manufacturers you can get in touch with to make your suit. They are more expensive than what you will find off the shelf but it is worth every penny.

If you are just starting out, you can rent a suit from the skydiving center. Just be sure to check it for tears, rips and obvious wear. If everything looks good, try it on and see if it fits. Don’t forget to check the tabs and zippers as well. If you enjoyed your first jump and plan to do it again, this is the time you should consider getting a new one.

Keep in mind that it takes eight to ten weeks to make custom made suit so you will have to rent one until yours finally arrives.

Skydiving suits come in different designs and colors. You can get a V-neck or a high one. This may also come with a few safety features like elbow and knee pads

The skydiving suit is one of the most important things you must have before you jump off a plane. Without it, your body will not be able to withstand the temperature up there and you will most likely freeze to death even before you hit the ground. This is why every jumper is required to wear one and have this inspected first by the instructor.

Keep in mind that there is no skydiving center in the country or in the world that will allow you to go skydiving without a skydiving suit. If you are going to do this regularly, make your own and then have this made in the color and design you want so you can stand out among the crowd.

Is there really any information about Skydiving that is nonessential? We all see things from different angles, so something relatively insignificant to one may be crucial to another.

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Are you looking for some inside information on Skydiving? Here’s an up-to-date report from Skydiving experts who should know.

Skydiving always starts out as a nice idea, and usually doesn’t develop past that. It always seems like fun in your daydream, but then reality sets in and before you can breathe, you’ve already changed your mind. If you dare to experience this free-falling thrill, you may not even realize what you’re doing until you actually step out of that plane and feel yourself fall with the wind. Standing in the doorway, you feel secure as your feet seem firmly planted on the ground. The equipment on your back weighs you down and it seems like free falling into sky isn’t something that could realistically happen. Then you lower your goggles, the instructor gives you the signal to jump, you take a deep breath, then you jump into a world of heart-racing free-falling adventure and rely on nothing but your parachute to land you safely on the ground.

Canada is a beautiful country to explore all its own, regardless if you are planning to skydive. Canada is full of countryside lakes, glorious mountains, and rolling hills that seems to stretch on forever. Imagine viewing these amazing natural sights from thousands of feet in the air. You can also catch this amazing experience on film by having your jump taped by a professional aerial videographer. For the experienced skydiver, Skydive Burnaby offers accelerated freefall (AFF) jumps along with the opportunity to jump in formations with other skydivers.

Another wonderful facility in Canada is Skydive SWOOP located in downtown Toronto. This facility offers instruction in the three main types of skydive jumps: AFF, Static Line, and Tandem. The static line jumps allows you to jump solo on the first time while your parachute is opened by your jumpmaster aboard the aircraft. Skydiving Varieties

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Skydiving is a pleasurable sport once you have overcome your initial fears of it. If you are planning your first jump, you have three varieties to choose from: tandem skydiving, static line and accelerated free fall.

Tandem skydiving is most popular for beginners. Tandem skydiving refers to a type of skydiving where a beginner or student is connected via a harness to an experienced skydiver. The experienced skydiver or tandem instructor controls the whole jump. The student needs only minimal instruction before making a tandem jump.

The first time skydivers gets exposed to the skydiving routine in tandem skydiving. Some training programs, still gives instruction on how and when to deploy the main canopy themselves. But the tandem instructor remains primarily responsible for safe and timely parachute deployment.

The tandem skydiving equipment is relatively different from the normal skydiving gears. Tandem skydivers use the drogue parachute. The drogue parachute is immediately deployed after leaving the plane in order to slow the free fall speed of two people. This would lengthen the duration of the jump. Tandem skydivers also use larger main parachutes so that the weight of two people can be supported.

A tandem instructor is not just an experienced skydiver you know. There are rules and regulations that limits who may skydive with a student. In the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration or FFA requires a skydiver to have more than five hundred dives and three years of skydiving experience before becoming a tandem instructor.

Tandem instructors who have passed the requirements demanded by their laws are required to pass an instructor certification course before they start jumping with their students of the plane.

Static line skydiving is said to be the oldest method of learning how to skydive. This is similar to the way parachuting for military airborne soldiers. They have to jump 3,000 feet high with a cord hooked on a plane that pulls your parachute open.

If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point, don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

Students would have to undergo the Static Line First Jump Course, which take 4 to 6 hours. After taking the course, the student could immediately to the static line jump under the direct supervision of a USPA certified jumpmaster or instructor.

A static line parachute jump involves no freefall. As the student exit the aircraft, the parachute is opened by a static line attached to the aircraft. Unlike tandem skydiving, this requires the student to land on his own. But his descent to the ground is done with the guidance of radio communications.

Static line skydiving can bee similar to the technique, Instructor- Assisted Deployment or IAD. The IAD is when the instructor initiates the deployment of the student’s parachute when the student jumps off the plane.

The last skydiving variety that beginners could try would be the accelerated free fall. Accelerated free fall is commonly called AFF, with this training discipline, there are two certified instructors that jump off the aircraft with the students. They would accompany the students while in free fall and will hold onto the student’s harness. That is why it can also be called Harness Hold Training.

The students have their own parachute with AFF. As part of the AFF training, the students are trained to handle emergency procedures. Since the students will also direct their landing, their training also includes proper landing procedures.

Since instructors would also be free falling side by side with students, they would be able to correct the student’s body positions and other problems encountered during the free fall. The students may also radio ground personnel to direct the student to the landing spot, but the student must develop the skills for solo landing.

There are many skydiving methods and varieties to choose from. Are you ready to take the jump?

What to see in Skydiving Magazine

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding Skydiving. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about Skydiving.

There are a lot of publications pertaining to fashion, cooking and parenthood. Did you also know that for certain sport like skydiving there is also one that you can subscribe to?

Indeed there are skydiving magazines around. Chances are you didn’t really attention to it when you were looking at the newsstand but it’s stacked somewhere in between the shelves.

If you do not find it there, you can look for it online because there are a few that have a website so you can check out. In the website, you can order a sample copy or browse through a sample issue. This is posted in adobe format which you can download into your computer.

For those who like the skydiving magazine, they can start subscribing to it.

You get a new copy each month and the cost depends on how you want it delivered. If this is done by regular mail, it will cost less but if you request it via first class mail, then the price is more than double. Subscribers can also get a copy of this even when they live outside the US.

There are three packages you can choose. The first is for a one year subscription that consists of 12 copies, the second is for 2 years which is 24 copies and last is for 3 years to receive 36 copies. You will get your first copy after your payment has been processed and selecting one of the packages.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Skydiving. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

The website also gives you the chance to renew your subscription when it is about to expire. If you signed up right now and realized that there was an interesting back issue, you can also order this from them.

In order for the skydiving magazine to get feedback from its readers, you can submit letters to the editor and news or tips through their website. You are also given the opportunity to upload pictures you have taken which hopefully will appear in their next issue.

You just have to follow the guidelines they have set with regards to writing and photography. One example is they don’t want skydiving fans to write about their first jump. If you plan to write on a certain topic, it is best to get in touch with their editors first because there is a chance that someone is already working on the same topic.

Another thing you will be happy to find in the skydiving magazine is a calendar which will tell you when and where a skydiving event is taking place. If this happens to be near your neighborhood, you should check it out and hang out with other skydiving enthusiasts.

Some skydiving magazines have been around for more than 20 years while others much shorter but try their best to give their subscribers what they want. This could be pictures, tips and anything else related to this extreme sport which the reader will love to read when the copy is delivered to their door.

You won’t a show yet on television dedicated to skydiving but you will sometimes see a clip. Until someone is able to make that happen, people will have to rely on the sky diving magazine to keep up with the trend.

If you think about it, there are a lot of activities that don’t have their own shows on television and putting pictures and letters in print is perhaps the next best thing.

Share the Thrill; Consider Tandem Skydiving

Friday, April 16th, 2010

When you think about Skydiving, what do you think of first? Which aspects of Skydiving are important, which are essential, and which ones can you take or leave? You be the judge.

For those of us that go beyond thinking about skydiving, the thought has probably crossed your mind at least once (especially if this is your first skydive) that you would rather skydiving with someone. No, that doesn’t mean someone else jumps before or after you, but you’d like to be attached to someone. Preferably, someone who knows what they’re doing and has lots of experience with skydiving. That’s exactly why tandem skydiving was created!

Tandem skydiving is a technical term for a student skydiver who jumps with an experienced instructor. The instructor handles every aspect of the jump, from exiting the aircraft, handling and guiding the parachute, and landing. The student does not need extensive instruction and training in order to complete tandem skydiving. Sometimes the student will be instructed in parachute deployment, but the instructor remains in control throughout the entire flight and ensures there are no safety issues.

If your Skydiving facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let important Skydiving information slip by you.

The equipment used for tandem skydiving differs slightly from the equipments used in single skydives. First of all, the parachutes are very different. Tandem jumpers use a drogue parachute. This parachute, when deployed, slows down the speed of the two jumpers to that of a single jumper. Tandem skydivers also use larger parachutes of at least 400 square feet, which help support the weight of two jumpers as opposed to one. Each parachute and equipment piece are put together in a tandem “system,” which each instructor must become certified in prior to performing a tandem jump.

Rest assured that your instructor is knowledgeable and can handle any emergency situation. The FAA requires that tandem instructors have at least 500 single jumps and over three years of skydiving experience before they can qualify to be a tandem instructor. Tandem instructors will provide you with everything you need to know prior to making the jump. In about half an hour, they will go over deploying the parachute, hand signals, and let you know about landing techniques. While it almost seems too easy and you may even think you haven’t had enough training, that is really all it takes to complete a successful tandem jump. For the most part, the instructors do all of the work for you.

Be advised that while you are jumping with an expert, it still does not release you from the health requirements of a single jump. You can be expected to be held to the same standards, and you will still have to obtain medical permission in order to complete a tandem jump. The facility is also not responsible for any emergencies or injuries, even if it is a direct result of the instructor. You will have to sign a waiver and release form, which states that in the event of an emergency you or your family members do not have the right to sue or take any legal action. Then again, you can expect to sign one of these at any skydive facility, tandem or single. Keep in mind that your instructor has had extensive training and the event of an emergency is nearly impossible.

That’s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news.

Skydive Columbus has its own rate schedule that can be viewed online or by calling for information. For a tandem jump which includes training and all equipment, you are looking at $219 for a single person. You can choose to purchase a video of your tandem skydive for an extra $95. Skydive Columbus does not offer any group discounts, but they do offer specific group rates. If you feel comfortable with tandem skydiving, the facility offers the chance to jump as individual (known as an accelerated free-fall) after three tandem jumps for $150. The facility offers various jumps and lessons in order to obtain your skydiving license, but you should call in advance with those questions and to obtain the rates.
