Nightmares and Night Terrors – A Frightening Sleep Disorder

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

At some time in their childhood almost all children experience the sleep disorder of having a nightmare. They are common in children and can begin as early as two years old. They are most common in children between three and twelve years old and are considered part of the normal developmental process. However, only about 3 percent, experience night terrors, also called sleep terrors. Both of these sleep disorders can be very frightening to a child.

Nightmares are dreams that are so frightening that they wake the person up. Everyone has had nightmares occasionally throughout their life and they usually are not something to worry about.
Nightmares occur several hours after going to sleep during the REM stage of sleep when there is general body paralysis and active dreaming.

A child can remember the nightmare once they awake and they still remember it in the morning. Sometimes this nightmare sleep disorder can become a problem if the child has nightmares very often and becomes afraid to go to sleep or becomes sleep deprived. When a nightmare occurs it is important that the parent remains calm and reassuring.

There are several things that a parent can do to prevent nightmares. Discuss calm and comforting things with your child just before putting then to bed. Reading to them, or telling them a story can also be very comforting. Don’t let a child watch violent or scary shows on television, especially just before going to bed. Maintaining a relaxing bedtime routine is also important. Sometimes, nightmares indicate a more severe emotional problem within your child.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

Night terrors usually occur during the first few hours of sleep, during deep non-REM sleep. They often occur at the same time each night. Night terrors are characterized by screaming, crying or moaning. It is not unusual for a child experiencing a night terror to sit straight up in bed and scream. Their heart rate is increased and they experience rapid breathing. An episode of this sleep disorder can last from 10 minutes to over an hour. Although the child’s eyes are open, they are actually still asleep and when they wake up in the morning there is no memory of what happened during the night.

Although night terrors can be frightening, they are not dangerous. They usually are not a sign of any type of mental distress. A parent should not try to wake the child, or comfort them, during a night terror. The best thing for a parent to do when their child is experiencing a night terror is to make sure they are safe. Generally, most children outgrow this sleep disorder after a few months or years.

Several of the factors that can contribute to night terrors include being overly tired, staying up extremely late, eating a heavy meal just before going to bed, and taking certain medications.

Although nightmares and night terrors can seem like a very scary type of sleep disorder to both the parents and the children involved, they are generally harmless.

This article’s coverage of the information is as complete as it can be today. But you should always leave open the possibility that future research could uncover new facts.

Causes of Mental Health Disorders

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of Mental Health is certainly no exception.

It is amazing how a lump of gray matter could manipulate all the systems in our body in the most systematic way possible with all the intricacies and complex functioning. But what’s queer about this stuff (the organ we call brain) is that it could malfunction in a way that it could result to single or multiple representations of mental health problems all in an individual.

Clinical research and laboratory observations consistently arrive at a conclusion that mental health disorders are products of the accumulation and interaction of several contributing factors. It would have been easier to identify each disorder if there is only one cause to all meal health disorders but that simply isn’t the truth. In reality, all mental disorders could root from several causes such as an environment that is conducive to the development of a mental disorder or individual genetic make-up that programs the brain (or the faulty components of the brain) to develop into something non-normal.

Saying that it’s all about the pathological make-up of the brain that causes the mental health disorders is simplistic, to say the least. Looking at the strange development of these disorders would reveal that there are actually at least 3 contributing factors that may be seen as potential causes, all of which have varying degrees. This means that a particular culprit could be more dominant than the other.

First with the physical causes. This bracket of causes is biological in nature. Each individual has a distinct and unique biological make-up that dictates the direction of his health, may it be physical or mental. Some people are born with inherent tendency to develop a specific mental disorder in comparison with other people while others are less prone to risks. This cause also covers the genetic make-up of an individual, the biological make-up and the events in life that affects the physical body (such as a trauma on the head or substance abuse).

Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable. You might also want to consider the following:

Second are the environmental or social causes. Nature VS Nurture has been a great debate in the scientific community but research confirms that a person experience a spilt-half of both. Nature of course are the physical attributes of an individual while Nurture reflects more on the social structures and physical, emotional and mental environments to which an individual was exposed to. This factor tells us more on how an individual grew up, the interaction of influences that affected all facets of his growth and the mechanisms he used to cope with a specific environment.

It is observable that some mental disorders are caused primarily by the consequences of experience brought about by the environment. For example, people (especially children) living in a stressful, chaotic and unstable environment are more likely to develop mental illnesses than those individuals living in peaceful environment. This consequence is due to the fact that there are certain social and environmental components that may become risk factors to the development of mental health problems.

Third is the psychological factor. This particular factor tells us more on the psychological state of a person, his coping mechanisms to certain life events that could otherwise end up with psychological disorders, his perception on his own self and his environment and thought patterns that affect his mental health. For example, someone who has gone beyond the limit of his stress coping capacity is likely to break down mentally as a result of the psyche’s automatic “lock down” to protect itself.

For the majority of people lacking mental health, it is often the case of triggering the mental health to break down through series factors that have eventually contributed to the cause of mental health disorder.

Why use Drop Shipping

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of Dropshipping is certainly no exception.

In today’s world, many people try to operate a profitable business by using the internet. It is much simpler to have a virtual storefront than to have a brick and mortar store. In addition, it is much cheaper to operate. One of the major reasons that the cost of operation is minimal is due to the process known as drop shipping.

Drop shipping seems to be a magical way of getting merchandise, selling the merchandise, delivering the merchandise, while not visibly seeing the merchandise. This may sound a bit complicated but actually, it is very simple. To use an example let us use the Dutch Maid Manufacturer of cleansers. Dutch Maid makes a lot of product but they are not in the business to sell or distribute the product. The next group let us introduce is Mr. Distributor who is the person who goes to the Dutch Maid Manufacturer and contracts to buy the product by the case at a dollar a can or $12 a case. The Manufacturer declares that it cost him .50cents a can to make, so there is a $6 a case profit. The Manufacturer is happy because he has profited without having to try to sell or advertise which has greatly saved on the company’s profit margin.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Dropshipping story from informed sources.

Let us take this a step forward, as Mr. Distributor now needs to sell the product in one of two ways, which are by soliciting retail stores and having them agree to buy the product or by opening up a website where Mr. Distributor can take orders and sell on line. In both cases, the process of drop shipping plays a vital part in Mr. Distributor business. First Mr. Distributor now has a good product for resale but does not have to keep it stored nor does he have to open up a storefront to display the product. He is using the drop shipping method simply put the retail stores order from him and he sends the order to the Dutch Maid Manufacturer who sends the product to the customer. This is why the use of drop shipping is the best way to run a business without too much investment.

This sounds like a sure fire way to make money without loosing a truly profit making opportunity. Unfortunately, success stories are rare as those who venture into this line of business balk under the adverse and challenging realities of the competitive medium. The primary reason for these unfortunate cases is not in the business plan or the lack of commitment on the part of those behind the idea, but rather it is inadequate and unreliable information. Most entrepreneurs fail because they did not locate genuine and legitimate wholesale and drop shipping companies. The other reason being the drop shippers is not supplying the kind of niche goods that actually generate not only high number of sales but extremely high profits as well. The use of a good drop shipper is one of the most vital aspects of a distributors business.

Don’t limit yourself by refusing to learn the details about Dropshipping. The more you know, the easier it will be to focus on what’s important.

The History of Harley Davidson Motorcycles

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Do you ever feel like you know just enough about Harley Davidson to be dangerous? Let’s see if we can fill in some of the gaps with the latest info from Harley Davidson experts.

Today, Harley Davidson motorcycles are a household name, but it hasn’t always been that way. It began way back in 1901, when a young man named William S. Harley had a vision for attaching an engine to a bicycle.

William had a friend named Arthur Davidson who embraced his concept. Together, they began working endless hours in a small wooden shed, with the words “Harley Davidson” scrawled on the door. By 1903, they rolled out the first production Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The legendary “Bar and Shield” logo became the defining symbol of Harley Davidson motorcycles in 1910. The logo is representative of strength and ruggedness. The design was patented in 1911 and continues to be used today.

In 1920, motorcycle racing legend, Leslie “Red” Parkhurst, broke numerous speed records on a Harley Davidson racing motorcycle. Each time Parkhurst won a race, he would carry a pig on a victory lap and it was during this time the term “hog” became associated with Harley Davidson motorcycles.

During World War I nearly half of the Harley Davidson motorcycles produced were sold to the United States Army. Throughout the 1920s, major changes took place to the design. The most notable was the change in the gas tank, which was switched to the now infamous teardrop shape. In 1928, Harley Davidson introduced the first twin-cam engine and front wheel brakes. These modifications allowed Harley Davidson motorcycles to reach speeds in excess of 85 mph.

Throughout the 1930s, Harley Davidson motorcycles continued to break speed records and won multiple awards. Harley Davidson further expanded into commercial and police vehicles through the introduction of the three-wheel Servi-Car.

Appearance changes were made to Harley Davidson motorcycles and included the famous “eagle” design, which was painted on all Harley Davidson gas tanks. During this time, the trademark 1340 cc engine was introduced and the “Knucklehead” motorcycle was launched.

Between the years of 1941 through 1945, Harley Davidson ceased civilian production of motorcycles and focused solely on providing reliable motorcycles to the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II.

When civilian production resumed, Harley Davidson motorcycles were in high demand. The organization expanded and purchased the A.O. Smith Propeller Plant to be used as a machine shop. Here they manufactured motorcycle parts and shipped them to the factory for final assembly.

1947 saw the introduction of the “Panhead” Harley Davidson motorcycle, which was deemed “THE American Motorcycle”. Two years later, hydraulic front brakes were introduced on the Hydra-Glide models.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of Harley Davidson is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about Harley Davidson.

The 1950s were filled with challenges and triumphs. During this time, the British captured nearly 40 percent of the motorcycle market with their ever-popular Triumph motorcycle. Harley Davidson owners knew they would have to get creative if they were to remain at the top.

To compete with the smaller, sportier motorcycles coming from Great British, Harley Davidson developed the side-valve K model with an integrated engine and transmission. Today, the K model is known as the Sportster.

1953 marked the 50th anniversary of Harley Davidson motorcycles. The organization marked this event by creating a special logo which included a “V”, with a bar overlaid reading “Harley Davidson” and the words “50 Years American Made”. Every motorcycle manufactured in 1954 had a medallion version of the logo placed on the front fender.

During the 60s, Harley Davidson scaled down production and offered the only scooter bike ever produced. It was also during this time that the Sprint model was introduced. Other innovations included the electric starter and the introduction of the “Shovelhead” engines.

The 70s brought about transformation of the Harley Davidson motorcycle. A new Sportster racing motorcycle was introduced in 1970. One year later, the FX 1200 Super Glide cruiser was introduced; along with the first Harley-Davidson snowmobile.

1977 brought the Harley-Davidson Low Rider to the forefront when it was debuted to the public in Daytona Beach. Later in the year, the Café Racer was released.

Last, but not least, Harley Davidson introduced the FXEF Fat Bob in 1979. This bike has dual gas tanks and bobbed fenders. It was featured in Hollywood films and quickly became a favorite of the American public.

During the 80s, Harley Davidson went through considerable internal changes and more attention was focused on motorcycle racing. One of the most notable changes occurred in 1986, when Harley Davidson became listed on the American Stock Exchange.

In the 1990s, Harley Davidson expanded its U.S. operations to include a multi-million dollar paint facility, a new distribution center, power train plant, and production facility. Harley Davidson also opened a new assembly facility Brazil, the first operations outside of the U.S.

Since the beginning of 2000, Harley Davidson has exploded the marketplace with a variety of new and exciting motorcycles. These include the Softail Deuce; the Buell Blast, Firebolt, and Lightning; the Road King Custom; and the Street Glide.

Today, Harley Davidson owns more than 60 percent of the motorcycle market share. Considering their history and reputation, chances are good that Harley Davidson motorcycles will be around for another 100 years.

So now you know a little bit about Harley Davidson. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.

Security Cameras Are Placed At Some Intersections.

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

In some areas, security cameras can be seen as a driver or pedestrian approaches an intersection. Most often times the intersection is considered a high traffic intersection or a dangerous intersection. By placing the security cameras at these intersections, it is easy for authorities to determine specifics on traffic related accidents, or injuries. In some cases, the security cameras actually slow drivers down.

The security cameras at different intersections, allow the determination of how an accident occurred, who was at fault, or what happened prior to the accident, as well as if the accident involves a hit and run situation, often times the tag number is recorded.

To some people, they don’t feel as if security cameras should be placed at intersections. However, what should it matter if they are not breaking the law or doing something wrong? Then they should have nothing to be concerned about. Yet, with this in mind, these same people could be involved in a traffic accident where a security camera is located and it be determined as not being their fault.

In any case, these people can’t have it both ways. Security cameras are put at these intersections for a reason. Not only to protect drivers and pedestrians, but to also obtain information on vehicles involved in traffic accidents and then leave the scene. These security cameras appear at intersections with a high volume of traffic and can become congested during certain hours of the day.

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

This could also reduce the number of 911 calls that would initially flood the security boards at the local police departments when an accident does occur at specific intersections. If the security cameras are set into place police and emergency vehicles can be dispatched to the intersection in many cases a lot faster.

Security cameras at intersections can also prove effective if police officials are in pursuit of someone who has broken the law, and they are picked up on the security cameras, this allows dispatchers to possibly aid in the pursuit and the stopping of the vehicle. However, this is still in a very new process and in a lot of smaller towns and cities there are no security cameras at intersections. They are being seen in bigger towns and cities across the United States. But it is a concept that is catching on quickly, and I believe we will see security cameras at intersections in more places as time goes on.

Authorities agree it is easier to determine the true fault of an accident, as to having to chase down witnesses and others who were at the intersection where the accident occurred. In fact, a lot of people won’t come forth and say what they seen. They don’t want to be witnesses, therefore making it even more difficult for authorities.

With these security cameras in place at intersections, they often times can get tag numbers as well as see the actual accident through recorded images and still images from the security cameras. It can only help traffic and the accidents that occur at the intersections.

Where Are Security Cameras Prohibited?

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

When you’re learning about something new, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of relevant information available. This informative article should help you focus on the central points.

Its obvious that security cameras in the United States are on the rise. People and owners of establishments want extra protection and safety. And for most Americans the idea of security cameras is not an issue to them. However, there are places where security cameras cannot be placed and establishments are prohibited to placing the security cameras in these areas.

Public restrooms for one, no matter where it may be, a convenient store to a large sports stadium, they cannot be placed in the restrooms. The security camera can be outside the entrance, but no where in public restrooms. The security cameras cannot even be placed in rest area restrooms along the highways and interstates. Schools cannot place them in restrooms either, though I am sure some would like too. People have a right to privacy, and even security camera owners cannot cross that line no matter what. That is, unless they want a hefty law suit on their hands, or other criminal charges brought up against them. Either way where ever the security cameras are prohibited well then security cameras should not be found don’t you agree?

Another place that security cameras are not allowed is in locker rooms such as in gyms, schools and once again sports stadiums. Security cameras invade personal privacy if they are placed in these areas. This of course, is a punishable offense if it is found that security cameras are in fact located in these areas of certain establishments.

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

Security cameras are not supposed to be placed in hotel rooms or rental property either. One place in particular that security cameras are not allowed is in department store or clothing store dressing rooms. This is definitely a violation of privacy. And, as an extra precaution store owners who have security cameras all over the store especially the bigger stores have now started putting devices on clothing specially designed to prevent theft of the clothing. I’m sure this is due to the fact that they are not allowed to place security cameras in the dressing rooms. By using the devices they hopefully keep clothing thefts down. Without being able to place security cameras in the dressing rooms. Laws are laws and the store owners must go by them. There are not many places that do not comply with the laws of where security cameras can be placed.

Before the use of these clothing devices were placed on the clothes, it was much easier for the theft of clothing by simply going into the dressing rooms and putting the new clothing on under the other clothing, taken into consideration that security cameras are not allowed in dressing rooms and people knew this. Now things are different, and store owners are seeing a difference as well.

Extra measures have been taken in the clothing departments in almost every store that sells clothing. You can’t blame these people for doing this. Considering that security cameras are not allowed in certain places, helps those who need to keep track of their inventory come up with other means of watching over their products.

How are Silver Pendants Made?

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

So what is Silver Pendants really all about? The following report includes some fascinating information about Silver Pendants–info you can use, not just the old stuff they used to tell you.

There’s something about the cool white glow of a silver pendant, which has captivated our senses throughout human history. Since ancient times silver has been used to make coins, decorative items, and silver pendant jewelry, from this precious metal. It has maintained its popularity throughout the ages with artisans, due to its pliability as well as because of its strength.

There’s a lot that goes into the making silver pendants, from the time that it is brought up from the mine, to the time the silver pendant is sold on the general market. The silver pendant that is gracefully resting around your neck has gone through many transformations. In most cases by the time the silver arrives to the artist, it is ready to be utilized in crafting jewelry according to what method he or she may choose. The artist has a variety of options as to what form of silver he or she would like to work with. Often the artist is able to purchase pre -rolled sheets of silver in a variety of thickness or rolled wire in several different gauges and shapes, as well as silver blocks or scrap pieces of silver, that the artist uses to melt down and then pour into a mold, which is called casting.

Silver pendants can be made using different techniques, and can often represent the artist’s unique style. One of the older forms of working with silver, because it is so soft, is to roll the silver out and then a rough shape, which will become the silver pendant, is cut out. Often the cut piece would be then pounded out with a mallet to flatten the silver and to temper it. Silver pieces were also sometimes pounded over some kind form, which would give it shape and definition to the silver pendant. Pounded silver often has a very unique look to it because of the marks left by the mallet, it also ensures that each piece is one of a kind, and no one will have a silver pendant just like yours.

Another method, which is also very old, is called casting. Casting is when pieces of silver are melted down and then poured into a mold and allowed then to harden. The process of making the mold is an art form in itself and is commonly referred to as the lost wax method. The artist takes softened wax and basically sculpts the wax into the desired shape he/she wishes the finished silver pendant to be.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Silver Pendants than you may have first thought.

This is then placed into another mold, and plaster of Paris is then used to encase the wax sculpture, leaving an opening at the top. Once the plaster has dried it is then heated up enough to melt the wax within the plaster, leaving the shape of what will be the silver pendant inside.
The artist next melts the silver, until it becomes liquid than pours into the mold. Once the silver has solidified, the mold is then broken open and the silver pendant is then removed once it is cool enough to be handled.

The silver pendant is now ready to be finished with hand tools, such as filing down any burrs along its edges and then buffed and polished to the shining gleam we have come to expect with silver jewelry. Once completed the silver pendant is then ready to be packaged and sold on the market.

Skydiving Equipment

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

If you have even a passing interest in the topic of Skydiving, then you should take a look at the following information. This enlightening article presents some of the latest news on the subject of Skydiving.

You might think that it is no big deal to board a plane and then leap from it once you reach a certain altitude but you are mistaken. If your equipment is not inspected, something could go wrong and you could end up falling to your death. This is why everyone must know what the proper skydiving equipment are before they jump.

The parachute rig which is the gear used by every skydiver is made of 5 parts.

1. The first is the parachute itself which is also known as the main canopy. This is the first one deployed when the skydiver reaches a certain altitude to reduce his or her speed before hitting the ground.

2. If there is something wrong with the first parachute, there is the reserve or second parachute that will be deployed by pulling the cord. Sometimes, this will deploy automatically if you happen to have an automatic activation device or AAD.

This is programmed to deploy the second parachute once you an altitude of 750 feet or 230 meters from the ground.

Your primary and secondary parachute is placed inside a backpack. So they don’t come loose when you pull the cord, it also have thick shoulder and leg straps which you have to put around your body. This is then connected to a line which runs from the parachute to the container. There are usually 5 sets of lines namely A, B, C, D and brake lines.

So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Skydiving. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.

3. No one is stupid enough to jump out of a plane in shirt and jeans. This is why you must always skydive with a jumpsuit. This is designed to protect you the moment you jump off the plane because of the strong winds and other forces of nature which could tear your clothes.

The jumpsuit also gives your protection especially when you are landing. A lot of people do not land feet first once they hit the ground. Even if they do, the wind could pull them down and you could get scratches or cuts until you are able to take the parachute off.

4. When do you deploy the parachute? That is a very good question and to do that, you will need to have an altimeter as part of your gear. This device will tell you how are you are from the ground and is very useful especially when you decide to skydive at night.

5. You will also need protective gear like a helmet and some protective padding. To be sure, you can also get a spinal protector which will protect your spinal cord should you accidentally fall on your back when you hit the ground.

You must always check your gear regularly before you get on the plane and before you jump. If there is a problem, you could be plunging to your death which is why this is also inspected by one of your companions or the instructor.

Of course no one wants that to happen so that you will be able to do this over and over again. If you like this activity so much, you could probably be jumping every weekend and chances are have already lost count how many times you have jumped. In short, you want to do it again and this can only happen if you have the right skydiving equipment.

I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and educational for you. Your learning process should be ongoing–the more you understand about any subject, the more you will be able to share with others.
